Protecting Water Resources

Water is the ultimate shared resource. As a leading brewer in Rwanda, we must use water wisely and ensure our suppliers do the same.

Water is basic need for human life and is vital to biodiversity and ecosystems. It is also central to our sustainable growth; our operations depend on its constant supply and may be significantly exposed to the risks of water stress and scarcity. We also impact on water resources through the water we use to grow our crops and make our beer, and the wastewater we discharge back into the environment.

We use water throughout our supply chain – from growing crops to making our products; beer is 95% water! Limited or irregular water supply could impact on our operations, and on surrounding communities. It is vital we work together with other stakeholders to promote healthy watersheds.

For instance we have been partnering with Water for People, an NGO, and other players in the water sector to put in place water infrastructure and optimize water usage in our production processes, as well as in building a culture of protecting water resources for the good of the planet in general.
