Kigali, 09th October, 2013, The Board of Bralirwa announces that after leading the Company through several years of sustained growth and development the current Chairman of the Board of Bralirwa, Mr. Jean-Paul van Hollebeke, will relinquish his position as Chairman of Bralirwa.

The Board wishes to acknowledge and thank Mr. van Hollebeke for the five years of service and wise guidance that he has provided to the Board and the Company both as its Chairman and as Heineken’s Managing Director, Africa with responsibilities for Bralirwa Plc.

During his period as Chairman, Bralirwa has grown from a turnover of Rwf 42 billion to Rwf 77 billion in 2012 and delivered sustained levels of profitability growth.

In January 2011, Mr van Hollebeke led Bralirwa to a successful listing on the Rwanda Stock Exchange when the Company became the first domestic company to list on the Rwanda Stock Exchange.

Appointed by Shareholders as the listed Company’s first Chairman, Mr van Hollebeke has chaired three highly successful AGM’s. Bralirwa shareholders have grown accustomed to and appreciated his inclusive style at the Company AGMs.

Mr. van Hollebeke also oversaw Bralirwa’s extensive capital investment programme to expand capacity at Bralirwa’s Soft Drinks plant in Kigali and Brewery in Gisenyi. In addition during his period as Chairman, Bralirwa invested in creating the Bramin irrigated maize farm in Kayonza that to-day provides Rwandan grown maize to Bralirwa to substitute for imported maize.

On behalf of all shareholders and employees of Bralirwa the Board takes this opportunity to unreservedly thank Mr. van Hollebeke for his very considerable contribution to the Board and to Bralirwa. Mr. van Hollebeke’s knowledge, understanding and affection for Rwanda, her people and Bralirwa together with his very evident concern for all shareholders and employees is well recognized by the Board and deeply appreciated.

Mr. Oladele (Dele) Ajayi succeeds Mr. van Hollebeke as HEINEKEN NV’s Regional Managing Director, Africa with responsibility for Bralirwa Plc. Mr. Ajayi is appointed to the Board of Bralirwa and the Board invites Mr. Ajayi to succeed Mr. van Hollebeke as Chairman. Confirmation of Mr. Ajayi’s appointment will be proposed to the 2014 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders.

Mr. Dele Ajayi joined HEINEKEN NV through Nigerian Breweries in 1989. In a successful career within HEINEKEN he has held senior management roles in Brewing, Sales, Marketing and General Management in Nigeria, Spain, the Netherlands and Hungary. Most recently Mr. Ajayi was Managing Director of HEINEKEN Hungary.

Bralirwa Plc is a Rwandan company producing and selling beers and soft drinks. The Company’s beer brand portfolio includes Primus, Mützig, Guinness, Amstel and Turbo King produced in the Gisenyi brewery and Heineken which is imported from Holland.
