Bralirwa to increase prices of Mützig, Amstel and Guinness

Date: 06 February 2008
Location: Kigali
Publisher: Bralirwa Plc.

Bralirwa is currently confronted with a strong increase in the costs of the raw materials for its products, such as malt, hops and sugar. Especially the world market price for malt, the main ingredient for beer, has increased significantly in 2008. This increase is caused by the increasing demand for malt combined with the moderate crops of last year. In general, the increasing market demand for raw materials such as malt, maize and other cereals in combination with limited supplies has lead to a worldwide increase in prices for these goods. Next to the increase of raw materials, also other costs, such as petrol and transport have increased.

These above mentioned cost increases have led to a significant augmentation of the cost price of Bralirwa’s products. Therefore Bralirwa has decided to increase the price of some of its products. The prices of Mützig, Amstel and Guinness will increase as from the 11th of February 2008.

As affordability and accessibility of its products for the Rwandan consumer is very important for Bralirwa, the prices of Primus, Heineken and Softdrinks, such as Coca Cola and Fanta, will not be increased. These products will remain at the old price level. Primus as being the true national and refreshing beer of Rwanda can therefore still be enjoyed by a large group of consumers at the current price. The recommended retail price for a 72cl bottle of Primus remains at 450FRW and the in 2007 successfully introduced Primus Ntoya (33cl) is at 250FRW.

In order to maintain a fair price level for its consumers Bralirwa will continue to invest in its products and brands. Many activities are already planned for 2008 for both the beers and softdrinks.

Moreover, to meet the increasing market demand and to further optimize the quality of its products Bralirwa has also a strong investment plan for its brewery and softdrinks plant in place for 2008.

Here is our current tariff.
