Signature of a pilot purchase agreement between Breer, Biomass Project Company and BRALIRWA PLC

A purchase agreement was signed between BREER (Biomas Renewable Energy-Rwanda) and BRALIRWA on Wednesday 3 October 2007 at Stipp Hotel-Kiyovu, Kigali.

According to the promoter “Breer”, the biomas plant whose full commercial operation will be commissioned in 12 months time from the date of the signing of the agreement. It will be built close to the brewery in Rubavu district. It will have a capacity of 600.000 Kw/h in the first phase and 01 megawatt in the final phase.

Breer as promoter will undertake to invest in the project 100% while Bralirwa commits to consume electricity produced, this will reduce cost on energy for Bralirwa.

In her remarks at the ceremony, the Managing Director of Bralirwa, Mrs Door Plantenga said that the kind of cooperation fits very well in Bralirwa’s vision of addressing the energy crisis and playing a partner role in redressing environmental problems caused by global warming. She said that the energy deal is a win-win situation for Bralirwa, Rubavu district, Rwanda and the region at large.

High profile partners attended the ceremony including the Minister of State in charge of Energy and Communication, the CEO of Electrogaz, the Deputy Director of Rwanda Investment and Export Agency (RIEPA), the deputy Secretary General of the Rwanda Private Sector Federation (RPSF).
